What is the European Solidarity Corps?

The European Solidarity Corps (ESC) is a European Union initiative that empowers young people aged 18 to 30 through volunteer work or work projects within their country or abroad. It is designed to promote solidarity, encourage social participation and facilitate personal growth by providing opportunities to contribute to society, gain experience and develop new skills through diverse activities.

Participants benefit from basic support such as food, accommodation, travel, pocket money, insurance and guidance throughout their participation.

Volunteers have the opportunity to learn and grow by engaging in meaningful projects that encourage teamwork, collaboration, and cultural exchange, enabling them to immerse themselves in diverse communities and work collaboratively. More information about ESC here.

Training while volunteering

The volunteer experience is supported by a weekly program of activities such as dance, yoga, singing, meditation, reading groups, movie nights and a whole range of practices that provide daily opportunities to explore ways of meeting oneself in an authentic and meaningful way. The program is built by the community, so you are very welcome to submit your ideas, gifts, and share your enthusiasm for your area of interest!

Acceptance criteria

We are looking for highly motivated volunteers who are willing to devote their energy to practical work and community engagement. We base the selection process mostly on your reasons for applying, your willingness to learn and also on whether you already have existing skills or experience.

The successful candidate must also be engaged in or open to some type of self-development practice (meditation, yoga, dance, or some other mindfulness practice).

Volunteers must demonstrate an interest in learning and living in the community. Living closely with a community of diverse individuals can be both challenging and rewarding, and we look for people who are open to that experience, and eager to support our shared values and goals. Please see our Ängsbacka guidelines here.

We warmly welcome and encourage individuals facing diverse challenges and fewer opportunities to join us. Ängsbacka is committed to creating an inclusive community where each person's unique journey is valued, respected and supported. (More information is available in the application forms)
