2024 Application Guidelines for Global Korean Scholarship for Graduate Degrees (GKS-G)

The Korean Government Scholarship 2024 is a fully funded scholarship that covers all tuition costs. This scholarship is provided to international students from different nationalities of the world who wish to obtain graduate studies in South Korea for the next academic year.

In 2024, the Korean government aims to invite 2,200 international students to the 2024 Global Korean Scholarship Program for postgraduate degrees.

The aim of the scholarship program offered by the Korean government is to give foreign students the opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies at top educational institutions in Korea, with the aim of improving international exchanges in the field of education and enhancing mutual friendship between countries.


Scholarship details

  • Country: South Korea
  • Donor: Korean government
  • Countries available to apply: All countries are available to apply
  • Study level: Master’s and PhD
  • Language of study: Korean or English
  • Language Certificate: You do not need a language certificate to apply because it includes a preparatory language year for learning the Korean language.
  • Level of study: Two years for a master’s degree and three years for a doctorate.
  • Age: 40 years, maximum for two levels.

Finance

  • Free tuition fees
  • Flight tickets from your country to Korea
  • Travel allowance of 200,000 won upon arrival
  • Monthly salary: 900,000 won
  • Health insurance 20,000 won per month
  •   A one-year course to learn
  • Korean
  • Support for scientific research: 210,000-240,000 won per academic semester
  • A reward for proficiency and excellence of 10,000 won once during the study period


Majors and universities

  • Most universities in Korea are open to apply
  • All specializations are available except medicine, pharmacy, and dentistry

  •   Master (3 years)
  •   PhD (4 years)
  •   Postdoctoral research program or teacher exchange (6 months - 1 year for people invited by the university)


Study paths available in GKS Korean Government Scholarship

  •   Detailed information on courses offered by universities and further information is available on NIIED's 'Study in Korea' website at studyinkorea GKS and check the guidelines.
  •   Applicants must select their desired fields of study from the list of programs.
  •   Evening classes and seasonal programs as well as online and distance learning programs are not included in the scholarship program.
  •   Please contact the desired department before applying to find out whether courses are offered in English.

  • A statement of grades or graduation certificate, and if you are in the last year of your current qualification, you can also apply
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Letter of intent

Beginning with the 2024 GKS-G, applicants expected to graduate by July 31, 2024 can also apply to the program with a certificate of expected graduation. These applicants must submit their official graduation certificate (or diploma) and final academic transcript to GKS, NIIED by July 31, 2024. Failure to do so will result in your admission being revoked.


Application deadlines

  • Applications will open in mid-February
  • The deadline to apply for the Korean Government Scholarship is March 10 at 4 p.m
  • The acceptance and rejection results and interview date for those selected for the Korean Government Scholarship appear in mid-March
  • The time will be communicated to shortlisted candidates and will not be subject to change.
  • In the event of the candidate's absence, the second candidate in line shall advance for the interview.
  • At the end of August, travel to Korea and start studying

Files are deposited directly at the embassy, we do not accept DHL, fax, email, etc.


How to apply for the GKS Korean Government Scholarship

  1. Applying through the South Korean Embassy in your country: Applicants must apply either to the Korean Embassy where they hold citizenship (Embassy Route)
  2. By sending the papers directly to the university of your choice to one of the designated universities (university path).
